Anyone But Keanu for Constantine

Okay, I just had to join this community, I couldn't resist. While I agree Keanu is wrong wrong wrong for Constantine, I have to admit I didn't hate the movie. I only became a Hellblazer fan afterwards, so I suppose that helped. However, I think Paul Bettany would have been perfect! So here I present my humble pic :)

Wonderful. I think Paul Bettany has replaced Christopher Eccleston as my top pic for who should have played Constantine just on that pic alone.

Honesty forces me to admit that had the movie been about some guy named John Smith who made it his life's mission to banish demons, I would have loved it. The visual effects were welldone, and Tilda Swinton was breathtakingly ethereal as Gabriel. Even Keanu Reeves was fine and had the spirit for his character ... but that character was not remotely Constantine. The motivations wee completely wrong and the heavy Judeo-Christian bent was also completely wrong. The only thing they had in common was being chain-smoking antihero loners.

I was frothing at the mouth (almost literally) at the previews because of how they were screwing up John Constantine's character as a concept, but the movie itself when I finally saw it wasn't as bad as the previews let on.

I think really my only complaint is that they so completely ignored all the stuff that makes Hellblazer and Constantine themselves, that they should have just made an original movie using the same script about John Smith the demon exorciser.
